Celebrating Chinese New Year

The children have had a fantastic week learning about China and Chinese New Year. We have enjoyed playing in the shadow puppet theatre and making paper dragons and Chinese lanterns. Today we have made some yummy spring rolls and done dragon dancing and ribbon dancing in the hall.

Visiting London

The children have had a fantastic week learning about London. We have had an English breakfast in school and learned about the landmarks of London. We have been making castles with the big construction pieces and making Big Ben, London buses and the London eye in the creative area. We finished our week by having afternoon tea with the Queen!

Dan Dog’s birthday party

It was a very special day in reception on Friday, it was Dan Dog’s birthday! The children had been preparing for the big day all week. They have written birthday cards, made party hats, wrapped presents, decorated party plates and iced biscuits. We have also read some lovely stories about birthday parties. We enjoyed singing happy birthday to Dan Dog and played some party games.

Pumpkin soup

This week we have read the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’ this week and the children have been very busy. They have been chopping vegetables in the fine motor area, retelling the story in the role play area and the small world area. In the creative area they have made a little piece of patchwork quilt. We have done some super writing and recorded number sentences using pumpkins! We have also made some beautiful settings for the story using a variety of materials.  Outside the children have been making music like the characters in the story and using natural materials to make pumpkin faces. We ended our week by making some pumpkin soup for our parents to taste. Wow! What a busy week!
